Exercise While you Shop

Comfort is Key

  • Ensure comfortable footwear such as trainers or flat shoes
  • Light layers of clothing to keep you cool whilst you shop

Focus on your Posture

  • Stand tall, head up & looking straight ahead
  • Shoulders back and down, chest out
  • Belly button pulled in towards your spine
  • Walk tall don’t shuffle along!

Work those Thighs!

  • Use your legs when bending to pick up items to reduce risk of back injuries.
  • Don’t bend over from the waist, squat down keeping your back straight.

Toned Summer Arms!

  • You can use your shoppingr bags in the same way as you would a pair of weights or an exercise band:

Bicep Curls

  • Stand tall with your bags held in each hand by your sides
  • Slowly lift the bags up by bending your elbow and bringing your
  • the bags up towards your shoulders.
  • Lower slowly to start position and repeat for 12-15 reps

Tricep Kicks

  • Place on leg forward & bend your knee slightly
  • Hinge forward from your hips maintaining a flat back, belly button pulled in
  • Elbows remain by your sides as you straighten your arms from the elbow out behind you.
  • Return to start and repeat for 12-15 reps

Front Raises

  • Place on leg forward & bend your knee slightly
  • Ensure shoulders back and down, look forward
  • Pull your belly button in towards your spine
  • Slowly raise your bags out in front of your to shoulder height
  • Lower slowly and repeat for 12-15 reps

Shoulder Press

  • Place on leg forward & bend your knee slightly
  • Ensure shoulders back and down, look forward
  • Pull your belly button in towards your spine
  • Slowly raise your bags out in front of your to shoulder height
  • Lower slowly and repeat for 12-15 reps

Burn Extra Calories!

  • Park your car further away or walk into town to burn extra calories & improve your cardiovascular efficiency.
  • Avoid the escalators & lifts, use the stairs & tone your legs & bum
  • Buy a pedometer to track the number of steps for each trip. Aim to beat your last score!

Maintain Your Energy Levels

  • Ensure your fuel tank is full, take a break and opt for a healthy snack such as fruit, nuts, jacket potatoes or a smoothie rather than calorie laden cakes, biscuits & full fat lattes you’ll only replace the calories you have just worked hard to burn off!
